The Mumbai police have arrested nine persons allegedly for beating a 27-year-old to death over a road rage incident. Police have so far arrested nine persons based on CCTV footage collected from the premises.

According to police, the deceased Akash Maeen (27), was a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena worker and on Saturday evening, an autorickshaw dashed against Maeen’s while overtaking. This led to an altercation between the auto driver and Maeen, police said.

Mumbai police said Maeen was travelling along with his family and a mob which gathered in support of the auto driver started thrashing him. Reportedly, the auto driver had left after the argument with Maeen.

The crowd thrashed him brutally while Maeen’s parents tried to push them away. The mother even laid over his body to protect him, police said. "Maeen was kicked and punched, leaving him with serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. Based on CCTV footage, we held six persons on Sunday and three on Monday. They have been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and other offences," police told PTI.
