An Indian Air Force Flight Lieutenant died by suicide on Tuesday and later, his wife, an Army Captain, took her life, saying she wanted to be cremated along with her husband.

IAF Flight Lieutenant Deen Dayal Deep was posted at Kheria Air Force Station in Agra, while his wife Renu Tanwar was posted at the military hospital in the same city.

The couple had a love marriage.

According to media reports, Deep had dinner with his colleagues on Monday and reportedly cracked jokes. He returned to his quarters "without showing any signs of distress or worry," according to his colleagues.

When he did not wake up late into Tuesday and people grew suspicious, his door was forcefully opened, and he was found dead.

Agra ACP Mayank Tiwari said the autopsy revealed that asphyxiation was the cause of death.

Meanwhile, Capt Tanwar's body was found hanging at the Garouta Officers Guest House in Delhi Cantonment.

A suicide note found on her person expressed her desire to be "cremated together, hand-in-hand."

“Her mother and brother were at AIIMS when she died by suicide. We came to know about her husband later," a Delhi police officer has been quoted as saying.
