Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the NDA chief ministers in Chandigarh after the swearing-in ceremony of new Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini.

“It is the largest group of non-Congress political parties post 1975. A total of 17 Chief Ministers and 18 Deputy Chief Ministers participated in this conclave,” PM Modi said during the meeting. He insisted that such conclaves be held twice a year for better coordination and pushing the governance agenda.

Earlier, a conclave of BJP chief ministers and deputy CMs was held in July ahead of polls in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP contested these two states alone despite offers of alliance. Now, the NDA conclave has been held ahead of elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand where the BJP is contesting alliance with its allies. The presence of NDA CMs is a political message that alliance was intact and could take on the Opposition alliance.

Also, as the conclave was held outside Delhi sent a message to the people. Now, Haryana is among the states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat which have elected BJP governments three times in a row.

Modi termed the victory in Haryana as significant and historic. The NDA has secured the trust and support of all sections of society. Prime Minister argued that the Opposition may have tried to portray “false narratives” of the NDA being anti-farmer but the fact was that it was the farmers who came out in large numbers to vote for the NDA.

He thanked the people of Haryana for “rejecting the negative politics of opposition and giving them a clear message that they stand with progress and good governance agenda of the NDA.”

Beyond the political messaging, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the governance challenges and targets. Addressing the CMs, Modi said that solution-centric governance with a focus on grievance redressal is a distinctive identity of all NDA State governments.

The Prime Minister said that he received 4.5 crore letters in the last 10 years as compared to 5 lakh letters in 10 years of UPA government, which reflects the trust of people in the NDA. “Smooth governance, fast decision making and transparency in governance helped in attracting investors and investment in NDA states,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister elaborated on the concept of pro-people pro-active good governance or P2G2. He emphasised the need for greater interaction between all NDA States, its ministers and MLAs. The legislatures should connect through social media as well, he added.

While appreciating the NDA government’s direct connection with the youth for Viksit Bharat, Modi urged the leaders to work towards TB Mukt Bharat, promoting natural farming, waste management, making big cities growth engines of states, boosting tourism and adopting an 11-point programme of welfare and development.

The PM also suggested to NDA leaders to have competitions among cities of NDA-ruled states for cleanest tourist destinations, cleanest hospitals, and cleanest Panchayats.

During the meeting, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde moved a resolution congratulating the PM on NDA-BJP’s victory in Haryana assembly elections, which was seconded by Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio and Goa CM Pramod Sawant.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh moved a resolution to mark the 75 years of the making of the Constitution of India as ‘Samvidhan ka Amrut Mahotsav.’ Prime Minister said, “For the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, swearing-in of the new government was conducted as per the provisions of the Constitution of India.”

Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution to observe the year 2025 as the 50th year of the murder of Democracy as the imposition of Emergency will complete 50 years.

The other three resolutions were to celebrate 150th birth anniversaries of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel and Birth Centenary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the year 2025.

Andhra Pradesh CM and senior NDA leader N. Chandrababu Naidu initiated the discussion on the concept of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He lauded Modi for “strengthening the Indian economy and bringing India pride globally.”
