Two migrant workers were killed in a militant attack in the Gagangeer area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Sunday.
The victims were working on a tunnel in the area. Some reports said three other labourers were also injured in the attack. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
After the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the attackers.
This attack occurred just days after a non-local labourer was killed in Shopian.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences. "Very sad news of a dastardly and cowardly attack on non-local labourers in Gagangir, Sonamarg. These workers were involved in a key infrastructure project in the area. Two have been killed and 2-3 others injured in this militant attack. I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their families," Omar wrote on X.
This marks the third killing of migrant labourers in Kashmir since the first elected government was sworn in Jammu and Kashmir after a decade on October 16.
The non-local labourer from Bihar, identified as Ashok Chauhan, was shot dead by militants in the Wandana Malhotra area of Shopian. Chauhan, in his thirties, hailed from Banka district in Bihar. A manhunt was launched to find his attackers.
