Noting that the BRICS Summit is taking place at a time when the world is facing several pressing challenges such as wars, economic uncertainty, climate change and terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the grouping can play a positive role in all such issues.
Modi said preventing inflation, ensuring food security, energy security, health security and water security are matters of priority for all countries in the world.
“I believe that as a diverse and inclusive platform, BRICS can play a positive role in all areas,” he said.

Modi also noted that the BRICS should give a message to the world that it is not a divisive organisation but one that works in the interest of humanity.
The prime minister also sought to give an unambiguous message amid the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East conflict, saying India supports dialogue and diplomacy, not war.
On Tuesday, Modi had said that India was ready to help restore peace between Russia and Ukraine.
The prime minister called for “single-minded and firm support” of all countries to counter terrorism and terror financing.
“There is no place for double standards on this serious matter. We need to take active steps to stop radicalization of youth in our countries,” he said.
Modi maintained that India is ready to welcome new countries into BRICS as partner countries, but added that all decisions should be taken by consensus, and that the views of the grouping’s founding members should be respected.
The prime minister also called for reforms in global institutions such as the United Nations Security Council, multilateral development banks, and the WTO.
