Jaya Bachchan's mother Indira Bhaduri died at the age of 94 in Bhopal after she was admitted to a private hospital. Both Jaya and her son Abhishek Bachchan were at the hospital.

Indira Bhaduri was born in a Bengali family and her husband Tarun Kumar Bhaduri was a journalist, author and poet.

On December 6, 2023, she was hospitalised in Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai due to her heart conditions. Following this, she reportedly underwent a pacemaker surgery.
Besides Jaya Bachchan, Indira had two other daughters, Rita Verma and Nita Ross. Rita and her husband Rajiv Verma live in Bhopal's Vaishali Nagar.
