The wave of bomb threats targeting flights of various Indian airlines continues unabated with over 70 flights receiving fresh threats on Thursday.
Around 20 flights each of Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo have got the threats while Akasa Air has got the threats for about 14 flights, reported news agency PTI.
Reports quoting sources from these airlines claimed that the messages were sent from the same X handle which has been targeting the the flights for more than a week.
However, under the newly changed protocol, such mass threats from the same social media handle are treated as non-specific to minimise disruptions by not requiring diversions.
An Akasa Air spokesperson said the Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the security and regulatory authorities.
"We are following all safety and security procedures in coordination with local authorities," he said.
Over 200 flights have so far received threat messages in the last one week, causing diversion of routes and chaos at airports. Nearly 50 domestic and international flights of Indian carriers received bomb threats on Tuesday.
On Monday, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said the government is planning legislative actions to deal with bomb threats to airlines, including placing the perpetrators on the no-fly list.
As per the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act (SUASCA), 1982, the perpetrators can be arrested and a probe can be initiated without a court order for offences when an aircraft is on the ground.
