Two soldiers were killed as terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle in Bota Pathri area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday. Two civilian porters also lost their lives in the attack.

According to reports, the militants opened fire on the Army vehicle when it was headed for the Nagin post in the Afrawat range.

“A brief firefight took place between Indian Army and terrorists in general area Butapathri, Baramulla. Details are being ascertained,” the Indian Army's Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

The Army had launched a search operation in the area after intelligence inputs that a terrorist group had infiltrated during summer and taken shelter in the higher reaches of the Afrawat range.

Bota Pathri was recently opened to tourists.

"Very unfortunate news about the attack on the army vehicles in the Bota Pathri area of North Kashmir which has resulted in some casualties and injuries. This recent spate of attacks in Kashmir is a matter of serious concern," Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a post on X.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the attack.

"Shocked and deeply saddened by the militant attack on an Army convoy in Baramulla in which a civilian porter was killed. Condemn it unequivocally and pray for the swift recovery of the injured soldiers," she said.

Earlier today, a migrant labourer was injured after being shot at by terrorists in Batgund Tral area of Pulwama district.

The injured labourer has been identified as Shubam Kumar, a resident of Bijnore in Uttar Pradesh.

This was the third attack on non-local labourers in Kashmir in the past one week. On Sunday, six migrant labourers and a local doctor were killed in a major terror attack in Ganderbal district.
