On Wednesday (October 30), when 28 lakh earthen diyas will light up Ayodhya’s Ram ki Paidi, a world record will be created again to beat the event’s previous record of 22.23 lakh diyas.
To be eligible for the world record, the diyas will have to remain lit for at least 35 minutes. This will be monitored by officials from the Guinness World Records. They will also count the number of diyas on October 29.
To accommodate the record number of diyas needed for setting the world record, their size has been reduced.
Precise measurements of the amount of oil needed for the diyas have also been made; 30 ml of oil will be poured into each diya.
The lit diyas will be constantly photographed for five minutes for the record.
This will be the seventh time that the Deepostav will create a world record.
In 2017, when the first time a record for the highest number of lamps simultaneously lit at a single location was created, there were just 51,000 diyas. This went up every successive year. The biggest leap came in 2022 when 17 lakh diyas lit up the city. This was almost double of the 9 lakh diyas which had been lit up the previous year.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be at the venue to take in the spectacle this year too.
Another record that the government is looking to create is that of 1,100 people doing a maha arti of the Sarayu together.
This Deepostav will be the grandest till now. It is also significant because it is the first to be organised after the consecration of the new Ram Mandir.
In the run-up to the event, Ram Lilas from Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia will also be staged in the temple city.
