An encounter broke out in Akhnoor, Jammu, after militants fired on an army vehicle near the Line of Control in the Jogwan area. No injuries were reported.

After the attack, security forces launched a major search operation and soon established contact with the militants, triggering a fierce gunfight.

Earlier, authorities issued a high alert across Jammu’s border districts,  including Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch, and Rajouri, after recent attacks in  Ganderbal and Baramulla. The alert was issued after a meeting led by ADGP Jammu Anand Jain, with district SSPs. Further updates will follow.

Militant attacks have witnessed a rise after the swearing-in of the  NC-Congress government.

On October 18, seven workers of a construction company were killed in an attack by militants at Ganagangeer in Ganderbal working on a tunnel to improve connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh. Among the dead was a doctor from Budgam district in central Kashmir.

Another attack on an army convoy saw five dead, including three soldiers and two civilian porters.
