BSP chief Mayawati has hit out against the Karnataka and Telangana governments for internal reservation of Scheduled Castes saying it is a conspiracy to make reservation “ineffective.”
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the BSP chief alleged that the threat to the Constitution has increased as various parties are working together against unity among Dalits. “It is being proved that the BJP and the Congress are two sides of the same coin.”
On Monday, the Karnataka government announced the setting up of a one-man commission to compile data and take necessary steps to implement internal reservation.
“After Haryana, the decision of Congress governments of Telangana and Karnataka to hurriedly implement reservation within the reservation to break up the Dalit unity is aimed at making reservation ineffective and defunct,” she wrote.
She also cautioned Dalits against the various measures being undertaken by “casteist parties” like the BJP, Congress, and the Samajwadi Party so to weaken the legacy of B.R. Ambedkar.
She said these parties, under the garb of being Dalit-friendly, are against the community and labeled them as enemies of society and of the Constitution.
Mayawati had earlier criticised the Supreme Court’s decision on the sub-classification within the larger SC and ST quota, aimed at giving fixed sub-quotas within the larger reservation to such communities that are the most backward. Mayawati said this is “vague” and that it does not give any clear guidelines. She also described the stance of the Congress and the BJP as misleading, wavering, and anti-reservation, and claimed that the Congress has been conspiring for years to end reservation.
