Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa granted interim bail in Renukaswamy murder case

The bench of Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty granted interim bail for six weeks to undergo medical treatment

The Karnataka High Court, on Wednesday, granted interim bail to actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in the Renukaswamy murder case, on medical grounds.

The court had asked for the actor's medical reports, following which the State presented them in a sealed cover from doctors at Ballari Central Prison, where Darshan is lodged, and the head of the department of neurology at a government hospital in Ballari.

The bench of Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty granted interim bail for six weeks to the actor to undergo spine surgery.

Darshan, who was arrested on June 11, submitted the bail plea on September 21, but it was rejected by a sessions court. Following this, he moved the High Court and requested interim bail for treatment.

Renukaswamy, 33, was a fan of Darshan. He allegedly sent obscene messages to the actor's friend Pavithra Gowda, who is now a co-accused in the case. The messages enraged Darshan. Another accused in the case, Raghavendra, who is part of Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, told Renukaswamy that Darshan wanted to meet him, and allegedly brought him to a shed in R.R. Nagar, where he was allegedly tortured and murdered.

Renukaswamy's body was found near a storm water drain in Sumanahalli on June 9. The post-mortem report revealed he died due to shock and haemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries.

According to the police, Pavithra, the accused number one, instigated the other accused, conspired with them, and also took part in the crime.
