An encounter erupted between militants and security forces in Khanyar in downtown Srinagar district on Saturday morning.
The encounter started after a joint team of police and security forces initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the area, following a tip-off. As they advanced towards the suspected location, militants opened fire from their hideout, triggering the exchange.
Intermittent firing was going on till the filing of this report. No casualties have been reported so far.

Search operation in Bandipora district
A search operation was launched on Saturday after the Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps spotted "suspicious movement" in Panar in north Kashmir's Bandipora.
"On being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and escaped into the jungle," the Army said.
