Chennai police have detained a couple for allegedly murdering their minor domestic maid. The couple allegedly tortured the minor with hot iron cigarette butts.
According to police, the 15-year-old minor hailed from Thanjavur and was employed by the couple as domestic help over a year ago. The couple, Mohammad Nishad and Nasiya, used to allegedly physically torture the victim and there were injury marks on her body. Police said there were marks of burns from hot iron and cigarette butts on her body.

Chennai’s Aminjikarai police arrested the accused couple on Saturday. According to police, the incident came to light after the owner of the house the couple rented came to know about the incident and alerted cops. Reportedly, police broke open the locked house and recovered the minor’s body from the toilet.
According to police, the minor was tortured on the day of Diwali as well. The victim’s body had burns and strangulation marks, The Hindustan Times reported. Police are awaiting the autopsy report from Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
