A Kerala court granted bail to CPI(M) leader P.P. Divya, remanded in connection with the death of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu on Friday. Divya is likely to get released from prison in the evening itself.

Hearing her bail plea, Thalassery Principal District and Sessions Judge  K.T. Nissar Ahammed granted relief to Divya on Friday in the case in which she is accused of abetting the suicide of the revenue official. Her anticipatory bail plea was rejected on October 29 following which she was arrested by police. Kannur police have registered a case against Divya for abetting the suicide of the revenue official. Kerala police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case.

The CPI(M) had removed Divya from the Kannur district panchayat president post following the case. Naveen Babu, the former ADM of Kannur was found dead in his official quarters on October 15, a day after his colleagues gave him a send-off following Babu’s transfer to his hometown Pathanamthitta.

Allegedly, Divya, who attended the meeting uninvited, criticised Babu in connection with granting NOC for a petrol pump in Chengalai, Kannur and levelled corruption allegations against him. During the meeting, Divya had said she did not want to present a memento to Babu and added the reason for it would be revealed in two days. She left the meeting immediately after making the allegations. A departmental enquiry rubbished the corruption allegations against Naveen Babu.
