A militant was gunned down in an encounter in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Security forces launched an operation in the forests of Rampur-Rajpur after receiving information about militant activity in the area.
"Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of #terrorists in Rampora #Sopore area of #Baramulla, a joint anti-terrorist operation was launched by Police and security forces. During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place. Further details shall follow," said Kashmir Zone Police.

One militant was killed in the operation, an official told PTI. However, police are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased militant.
On Friday, two terrorists were eliminated by security forces following an encounter in Sopore. Reportedly, both were Pakistani nationals.
Kashmir Zone Police confirmed that two terrorists were neutralised and incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered.
"A joint anti-terrorist operation was launched by Police and security forces based on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorists in Panipora of Sopore area in Baramulla. During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place," said the Kashmir police.
There has been a spike in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir with the security forces engaging in encounters with them.
In the wake of the progressing search operations, Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Saturday.
