A suicide attempt by a nursing student inside his hostel room at Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College triggered tensions on the hospital campus on Sunday. This comes just days after the death of a resident doctor, Dr Dipro Bhattacharya, in Jhargram.
Tala police station officials said they were reportedly alerted by the hospital authorities about the student's bid to end his life in his hostel room on Saturday night. The nursing student reportedly had injury marks on his hands and has been admitted to the trauma care centre of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, reported Anaadbaazar Patrika.
The incident has triggered an uproar in the hospital amid reports of a "threat culture" on the campus.

Jhargram Doctor Death
The post-mortem report of Dr Dipro Bhattacharya has suggested that something had been administered into his body through injections which caused multi-organ failure. Police sources told local media that a complete autopsy is necessary to ascertain as to what caused Dr Bhattacharya's death.
However, a senior administrative officer of the Jhargram Medical College Hospital reportedly told officials that Dr Bhattacharya was suffering from depression and used to take anti-depressants regularly.
Police suspect that he might have committed suicide owing to depression. They have also recovered a syringe and anaesthetic drugs beside his body.
The investigation officials have also found that Dr Bhattacharya sent a WhatsApp message to his wife in which he discussed his "personal, mental, professional, and family issues" in detail. He is also said to have sent another message to some WhatsApp groups, where he allegedly discussed issues of “threat culture” and “corruption” within the health sector.
Dr Bhattacharya was reportedly posted at R G Kar Medical College over a year ago.
The incidents come as the rape and death of a resident doctor in the hospital triggered a massive protest in the state.
