Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge came down heavily against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for their poll slogans and charged the BJP leaders are with those who killed the one who got us independence, referring to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. Kharge released the Maha Vikas Agadi’s poll manifesto for the Maharashtra Assembly polls on Sunday.
Addressing presspersons after releasing the manifesto, Kharge slammed Adityanath’s Batenge toh katenge (If divided, we perish) slogan. Kharge said, “What does he (Adityanath) mean by this? 'Aap kisko kaatangey?'... Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives to keep the country united.”
Lashing out at the prime minister, Kharge said, “Modi Ji says 'ek hain toh safe hain'. I don't know which slogan will work... You are among the people who killed the one who got us independence.”
The Congress president also accused the BJP of spreading falsehood against Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi over the concise Constitution copy with red cover he carries and said PM Modi gifted a similar copy to former president Ram Nath Kovind in 2017.
Recently, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was trying to seek support from urban Naxals and anarchists by holding a red book in his hand.

However, Kharge said the red handbook was only used for reference and it was not the entire Constitution. “Even Narendra Modi gave a similar copy to then President Ram Nath Kovind on July 26, 2017,” the Congress leader said displaying a picture of the two leaders, PTI reported.
Taking a dig at PM, Kharge also displayed a red book of the Constitution, saying it was not blank as was being projected by Modi and the BJP. “It is necessary to enroll him in a primary school again,” the Congress leader said.
