The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has detained a post graduate student, Bhat Navidul Ali, on allegations of using social media to promote radical propaganda.

According to an official statement, Navidul, son of Ali Mohd Bhat and resident of Tazipora-Mohammadpora in Kulgam district, was apprehended after CIK learned of his online activities that allegedly encouraged public dissent against the Government of India.

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Lab Science, Navidul is reportedly in contact with "cyber/virtual entities" who, according to the CIK, are actively working to radicalise youth in the Kashmir Valley, motivating them to join terror organisations.

The statement said the student was consuming and sharing extremist content available online and was allegedly preparing to join militant ranks, raising concerns about youth radicalisation through social media platforms in the region.

Upon receiving credible information, CIK swiftly dispatched a team to detain Navidul for questioning.

Authorities also summoned his parents and other local community leaders for counselling sessions aimed at addressing issues of youth vulnerability to online radical content.

The CIK has issued a public appeal to the youth of Kashmir, urging them to avoid involvement in illegal and radical activities that could jeopardize both their future and the security of the region.

They further advised parents to maintain vigilance over their children’s online activities, stressing the importance of proactive monitoring in order to prevent the youth from falling prey to extremist ideologies.

This incident underscores the scrutiny by security agencies to curb radicalisation in Kashmir, as officials note a concerning trend of youth being drawn into militant networks via online channels.

The CIK is an important branch of J&K Police and complements other branches of the force in maintaining law and order.
