Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) and its chief Uddhav Thackeray, saying they have given their remote control to the Congress.
Addressing his final rally for the Maharashtra Assembly elections in Mumbai, Thackeray reiterated his challenge to Uddhav’s party to get other members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) to praise Balasaheb Thackeray, a strong votary of Hindutva in the state.
“Mumbai is a city of self-respect, but a party in Maha Vikas Aghadi has handed over its remote control to those who insulted Balasaheb Thackeray,” he said.
“That is why I challenged them to get the Congress to praise Balasaheb Thackeray. Till date these people have not been able to get the Congress and the Prince of Congress to praise Balasaheb,” the prime minister added.
The Shiv Sena (UBT), which snapped ties with the BJP in 2019, is a member of the opposition alliance which also comprises the Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP(SP).
Accusing the Congress of being desperate for power, Modi said the grand old party is like a fish out of water.
Further targeting the previous governments at the Centre, the prime minister alleged that terror attacks kept happening across the country during the Congress regime.
“Everywhere people were scared of unclaimed objects. But now all this has stopped. Terror masters now know that if they do anything against India, Modi won't spare them,” he said.
Maharashtra goes to polls on November 20 and the votes will be counted on November 23.
