The 31-year-old Jiribam woman, who was charred to death by an armed group from the valley, was subjected to brutal torture before being killed, autopsy claimed. Many of the details cited in the report are very graphic to be disclosed in news articles, media houses who accessed the postmortem report claimed.
The mother of three was killed inside her house in Jiribam's Zirawn on November 7, Thursday. As many as 17 houses were burned down in the tribal village following the attack. The victim was left inside one of these houses to die by the perpetrators.
The husband of the woman had claimed that she was raped by the attackers. However, it was impossible for the doctors to verify this claim as her body had suffered 99% burns, Times Of India (TOI) said in a report. A rape claim can't be verified if a vaginal smear can't be collected from the body.
Even the bone fragments of the woman were charred, the autopsy said, adding that there were deep wounds on her thighs. It is doubted that metallic nails were pierced into her thighs to torture her, while parts of her face and both upper and lower limbs were missing, the daily said.
It is still to be ascertained how her husband and the couple's kids escaped the intrusion unhurt.
Fresh violence: AFSPA makes a comeback to Manipur
In the backdrop of fresh violence, the Centre has reimposed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in Manipur's six police station areas, including the violence-hit Jiribam.
An area or district is notified as "disturbed" under AFSPA to facilitate the operations of the armed forces. AFSPA gives armed forces operating in disturbed areas sweeping powers to search, arrest and open fire if they deem it necessary for the "maintenance of public order".
In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said the decision was taken given the continuous volatile situation there due to the ongoing ethnic violence.
The police station areas where AFSPA has been reimposed are Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Jiribam in Jiribam district, Leimakhong in Kangpokpi and Moirang in Bishnupur.
