Security has been heightened at Mumbai airport after an unidentified caller alerted the security personnel about a passenger carrying explosives. The airport personnel are verifying passenger details following the alert and efforts are on to identify the caller.
According to reports, the Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Mumbai airport received a bomb threat alert on Wednesday afternoon. The caller reportedly contacted the CISF control room at the domestic terminal in the airport and informed about a passenger allegedly travelling carrying explosive materials in the baggage. The caller allegedly claimed a man called Mohammad was travelling from Mumbai to Azerbaijan with explosives, News 18 reported.

Mumbai police were immediately alerted and additional forces were deployed at the airport. Security has been heightened at the airport and thorough checks are being conducted. As the caller did not mention any further travel details about the alleged passenger, security forces are maintaining a strict vigil at the airport.
The threat call comes after a lull in hoax threats that jeopardized airline operations in India. At least 100 flights of various airlines, both international and domestic, had to be rescheduled or cancelled following a spree of hoax threats a few weeks ago. The civil aviation ministry is mulling including persons who issue hoax threats on 'no-fly list'.
