Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath who was in Phulpur to address an election rally chose to highlight that he was late for the campaign as he was busy attending to the fire that broke out in a Jhansi hospital in the late hours of Friday.
This comes after the opposition alleged that the necessary measures for fire safety were not in place in the hospital where so far 10 children have died.

Yogi’s speech touched on the Deepostav in Ayodhya and the Dev Deepawali in Varanasi, saying this was possible only in a BJP government. He also spoke about infrastructure development and the smooth conduct of competitive exams despite the fact that his government has been plagued with multiple paper leaks.
The Samajwadi Party, on the other hand, he said was only focused on ‘sabka saath, Saifai parivar ka vikas’.
He reminded the crowd about the BJP’s determination to get rid of the state of all kinds of mafia and said that this was a cause of great discomfort for the Samajwadi Party for it earned through these mafias.
Yogi also touched on the preparations being made for the Mahakumbh, saying that it would emerge as an unparalleled cultural heritage.
Yogi also spoke about the 500-year wait for Lord Ram to be seated in his mandir. He cautioned people against forces that try to divide people in the name of castes. He also cautioned people against falling for social media tactics, which were being used to divide people.
He said his government had given cylinders under the Ujjwala Yojana, provided electricity connections, waived off farm loans, given free rations, old age pensions and built toilets without any discrimination of any sort.
Adityanath also said that while the election was a ‘mission’ for the BJP, it was just a means of making money for the other parties.
The BJP candidate is former MLA Deepak Patel who is pitted against three-time former MLA Mujtaba Siddiqui of the Samajwadi Party.
Though the Bahujan Samaj Party has also fielded a candidate, Jitender Singh, he is unlikely to impact the contest in any way.
Patel himself has his political roots in the BSP when he won the election in 2012. In 2018, he joined the BJP. His father was an office bearer in the zila panchayat.
BJP has won the Phulpur seat twice and will be looking to score a hat-trick this time.
