The Delhi Police has directed e-commerce websites and social media platforms to suspend the online sale of fire crackers in the national capital even as the air quality index recorded a marginal improvement on Wednesday.
The direction issued by the Crime Branch wing has asked these websites to activate location-based restrictions to prevent any sales or deliveries of fire crackers. They also have to publish a clear notice informing the customers about the prohibition of firecracker, sales and deliveries in Delhi.
The e-commerce sites have been further directed to inform their delivery partners not to accept, transport or deliver any consignments containing firecrackers in Delhi.
The Delhi government had last month imposed a blanket ban on the manufacture, storage and bursting of firecrackers in Delhi till January 1, 2025.
WFH for 50% govt staff
The Delhi government on Wednesday announced Work From Home for half of its staff and those of the MCD as the city continues to reel under high level of pollution.
Environment Minister Gopal Rai urged private offices, industries and businesses to take similar steps to help mitigate the crisis.
Offices providing emergency and vital services will operate with full capacity.
The order will be in force until Stage-IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is lifted.
The air quality index remained in the ‘severe’ category on Wednesday though it came down to 419 from 460 the previous day.
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the AQI is expected to remain in the "severe" category on Thursday and Friday and improve to the "very poor" category on Saturday.
