The Karnataka High Court dismissed suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna’s anticipatory bail plea in sexual assault registered against him on Friday. The former MP faced a setback in the fourth sexual assault registered against him by Karnataka police.

Pronouncing the verdict on Revanna’s plea, the Karnataka High Court rejected anticipatory bail to the Janata Dal (Secular) leader considering the gravity of the complaint against him. The Special Investigation Team probing four cases of sexual assault and rape against Revanna submitted its charge-sheet in the fourth case recently.

While Revanna’s counsel sought to withdraw the plea, the bench observed it could not be done on the day it is being heard for pronouncement of judgment. Karnataka High Court Justice M. Nagaprasanna said, “You can rest assured not a word from the charge-sheet, I have relied only on the complaint. The application has been dismissed only on the basis of the complaint and Supreme Court's judgments," Bar and Bench reported quoting the bench.

Revanna is facing charges under IPC sections 367(2), 354(A), 354(D), 354(B), 506 and section 66E of the Information Technology Act in the fourth case of sexual assault registered against him.

Revanna recently faced a setback in the Supreme Court as well after it rejected his bail plea in one of the sexual assault cases. The Karnataka High Court rejected his bail pleas earlier.

Prajwal Revanna, grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda had contested the recently held Lok Sabha elections from Hassan, however, he lost to Congress candidate Shreyas Patel in the polls. He is accused of sexually assaulting several women and recording those acts.

The sexual allegations emerged after the polls and he had left for Germany soon after the polls held on April 26. The Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case and Revanna was arrested minutes after he landed from Germany. The series of sexual abuse cases came to light after pen drives containing the alleged videos were circulated in Hassan ahead of polls.
