Parents of the trainee doctor who was brutally killed at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital met West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari at the state assembly on Tuesday. They broke down while speaking with the LoP, who assured them of all support in their pursuit of justice for their daughter.

“Everyone is standing by our side, we want you to be by our side in the coming days,” her mother said. “What offense did my daughter even commit that she was killed in such a cruel way? Even today I don't know what happened to my daughter that night,” she added while interacting with the press.

The deceased trainee doctor’s father was also seen asking for public support and said if the second chargesheet by the CBI doesn’t deliver justice, they too would start protesting on the streets.

“The trial will proceed in the court and that’s fine. But the injustices that we have endured must be put on trial before common people,” he said, adding that the movement on the street has to be continued for justice.

Voicing his support for the "constitutional" demand made by the victim's father, LoP Adhikari pledged to take the fight for her justice to the "court of public opinion."

He said, “He said judicial fight will continue. Judiciary is a pillar (of our democracy). But the theme of our constitution is ‘for the people, by the people, of the people’."

During the day the LoP also led a march of the BJP MLAs in the assembly, calling for the immediate release of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh. He urged all Hindus in Bangladesh to stand united against "radical forces."

Chinmoy Krishna Das, who heads the Pundarik Dham in Chittagong and serves as a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jot, was arrested on Monday at Dhaka airport by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on charges of sedition.
