Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Uttar Pradesh government and police for registering cases against party leaders in connection with violence over surveying a Mughal-era mosque in Sambhal. Yadav charged fake cases have been registered against party leaders and held the state government responsible for clashes.
The INDIA bloc leader questioned why a case has been registered against their MP Ziaur Rahman Barq while he was not even present in Sambhal at the time of the riots. “.False cases are being filed against the MP there, the MLA there and his son. If there is any fault, it is the government's,” Yadav charged. The SP leader questioned why a second survey was conducted at the site and it should have been conducted only after discussions with all stakeholders.
The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case against Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rehman Barq and local SP MLA Iqbal Mehmood's son, Sohail Iqbal in connection with the violence in Sambhal. The district administration said they have sufficient evidence to prove that Barq committed provocative acts.
Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh said, “There is evidence against MP Ziaur Rahman Barq that he has committed provocative acts. Action has been taken against him as under the provisions of the BNS," Hindustan Times reported.

Violent clashes erupted in Sambhal on Sunday after a survey team reached Shahi Jama Masjid to survey the site as per the directions of a local court. The team had conducted a survey earlier on November 19. The survey was ordered by the court hearing a petition claiming the Mughal-era mosque was constructed by demolishing a temple.
A violent mob pelted stones on the survey team, forcing police to use tear gas to disperse protesters. Four persons died in the clashes and police have so far arrested 25 persons in connection with the violence.
Prohibitory orders are in place in Sambhal till November 30. According to authorities, schools reopened on Tuesday and outsiders are restricted from entering Sambhal till the end of the month. However, internet services continue to remain suspended.
