The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Delhi government and Centre over a plea of a few BJP MPs seeking implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya scheme in the national capital. The Court will next hear the case on December 11.
Hearing a plea filed by seven MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a bench headed by Chief Justice Manmohan issued notices to the Centre, Delhi lieutenant governor and Delhi government and sought their response. The BJP leaders sought the Court to issue directions to the government in the national capital to implement the health insurance scheme for the underprivileged.

The petition was filed by seven BJP MPs - Harsh Malhotra, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Praveen Khandelwal, Yogendra Chandolia, Manoj Tiwari, Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj. The petitioners observed residents in the capital city were facing a serious issue of high out-of-pocket health and medical expenses. They said several persons are forced to resort to borrowing or selling their assets in a medical emergency.
They said Delhi was the only Union territory where the Rs 5 lakh insurance cover was not implemented and it is depriving the underprivileged of an essential healthcare scheme. Stating that "clash of political ideologies must take a back seat" in the interest of the welfare of the residents of Delhi, the petitioners sought a direction to the Delhi government and its health department to implement, PTI reported.
