Since the Maharashtra assembly election results, the question raised by political observers and voters was who will be the next chief minister- Devendra Fadnavis or Eknath Shinde?

With Shinde resigning on Tuesday and declaring support to the BJP top leadership's decision over the CM's post, the speculations have been rife with many saying his son Shrikant Shinde has a chance as deputy CM.

Until the formation of the new government Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan requested Shinde to continue as the caretaker CM.

However, the Mahayuti alliance is expected to announce their pick soon with Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar meeting Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday night.

Reportedly, the meeting will lead to a decision on who will be the next Maharashtra CM.

"I cleared my role in the press conference yesterday that there are no obstacles regarding the Chief Minister of Mahayuti. This 'ladla bhai' has arrived in Delhi and the 'ladla bhai' is a designation higher than anything else for me. A meeting will be held on everything," said Shinde.

The majority are suggesting Devendra Fadnavis is the likely choice to lead the government as BJP swept the polls bagging 132 constituencies.

It is also reported that Shinde is not likely to accept the post of the deputy CM. "He is unlikely to be a deputy chief minister. It does not befit a person who has already served as chief minister," Sanjay Shirsat, an MLA and spokesperson of the Shiv Sena told PTI.

Lately, Shrikant Shinde has lauded his father for giving priority to collective governance over personal ambition and maintaining faith in PM Modi and Shah.

The Mahayuti alliance won 230 seats in the 288-member House. Shinde's Shiv Sena won 57, while NCP won 41 seats.

The Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) suffered a setback, with winning just 46 seats.
