The Bharatiya Janata Party’s central disciplinary committee has issued a show-cause notice to Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, citing his “continuing tirade” against the Karnataka state leadership.

Yatnal is a vocal critic of former Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa and his son B.Y. Vijayendra, the state BJP president. The Yatnal-led faction alleges that the father-son duo is indulging in “adjustment politics” with the ruling Congress and demanded the replacement of Vijayendra.

The rebel faction comprising senior leaders like Arvind Limbavali, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Pratap Simha, Kumar Bangarappa, and G.M. Siddeshwar has launched a separate anti-waqf campaign, too. However, the party leadership has announced three teams to study the waqf issues and submit a report.

The notice stated that Yatnal’s “continuing tirade” against the state-level party leadership and his “defiance” of party directives and making public pronouncements and stance in contravention of the party’s official stand on all matters of political and public importance as reported in media and by different party forums.

The committee also stated that it was a matter of great concern that despite having been issued a show-cause notice several times in the past and his assurances of “good conduct”, the acts of indiscipline had continued unabated.

“Given your seniority and long-standing in the party, the Central Disciplinary Committee took a lenient view on the explanations submitted by you in the past. False and veiled allegations levelled by you against the party leaders, together with defiance of the official stand of the party on matters of political & public importance, constitute a serious breach of the party discipline as defined in Article XXV of BJP Party Rules: ‘Breach of Discipline’ section (a) and (f),” stated the notice giving the former minister 10 days to reply.

Yatnal took to social media platform X to respond to reports about the BJP notice.

“I will respond to the notice issued by the BJP Disciplinary Committee chairman, while also presenting the facts regarding the current state of the BJP in Karnataka. My commitment to the fight for Hindutva, opposition to corruption, Waqf-related issues, and dynasty politics will remain unwavering,” he posted on his official X account.
