A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Dachigam forest area near Harwan in Srinagar on Tuesday morning.
The sounds of gunshots were first heard late on Monday night, which led to a quick response from security forces who were conducting a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area.

Reports said the security forces tried to approach a suspected hideout, militants opened fire leading to an encounter. The area has been sealed off and the operation is going on.
The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “Based on specific intelligence input, joint parties of SFs launched CASO in the upper reaches of the Dachigam forest. Contact established. OP is in progress. Details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice.”
They said the operation is still in progress and more details will be provided later.
The identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.
