Police in Srinagar are continuing their efforts to combat drug dealers. On Wednesday, they seized properties worth more than three crore rupees under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The first property taken was a three-story residential house owned by Abdul Ahad Bhat from Banpora Batamaloo. This house, valued at Rs 65 lakh, was reportedly bought with money made from the drug trade. Police say Bhat is a well-known drug dealer who has been selling drugs to young people, which led to a case being filed against him under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Shaheed Gunj. A large amount of drugs was also found during the investigation.
In another case, police took possession of a three-story house at H.No.18, Umer Lane Azad Basti, Natipora, which is valued at Rs 2.5 crore. This house belongs to Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and is connected to his son, Jan Manzoor Bhat. The property was also acquired through drug dealing, according to police. Jan is accused of selling drugs to local youth and faces charges under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Chanapora.
Both properties were seized according to Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act, pending confirmation from the relevant authority. The police stated that these properties could not be sold or transferred without prior approval.
In separate incidents, Srinagar Police arrested two drug dealers and found illegal substances. A police team from the MR Gunj station stopped a vehicle at Syed Mansoor Bridge, Zaldagar. After searching the car, they found 11 grams of brown sugar hidden in the dashboard and arrested the driver, Rakib Ahmad Dar from Rajouri Kadal.
In another case, a police team from the Noorbagh post arrested a drug dealer named Muhummad Irfan Sheikh from Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh. They recovered 2.51 grams of heroin and are currently investigating to find out more about his connections.
