The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) and the State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a significant raid at Central Jail Srinagar on Wednesday, uncovering digital devices allegedly used for subversive activities.

This operation was carried out under a search warrant issued by the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar. It is part of an ongoing investigation into a terror-linked case (FIR No. 06/2023). According to a police spokesperson, the case revolves around a conspiracy organized by proscribed groups operating within Jammu and Kashmir and across the Line of Control (LoC).

The spokesperson revealed that these organizations, in collaboration with Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sympathizers in Kashmir, are accused of forming new militant modules and radicalizing local youth through social media platforms to engage in unlawful activities.

During the investigation, it was discovered that mobile phones and other communication devices were being used by undertrials and their associates within the jail to coordinate with active militants. These devices were reportedly utilised to transmit instructions from handlers located across the border.

“The operation also aims to investigate how such devices were able to breach the jail's security. Facilitators and collaborators involved in smuggling these devices into this high-security zone will be thoroughly examined,” the spokesperson stated. “The raid seeks to gather crucial evidence and prevent the misuse of communication devices in secure areas like jails.”

The spokesperson emphasized that legal action will be taken against anyone found supporting or abetting militancy through these methods. Authorities reiterated their commitment to eradicating the use of illicit communication tools in terror-related activities and strengthening the security framework across the Union Territory.

The police have heightened vigil in view of growing militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir post assuming office by the elected government on October 16.
