The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) is organising a peaceful sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on 14th December 2024 to urge the government to revise the new reservation policy.

In a statement, National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said that the protest aims to highlight the unfairness of the current reservation system.

He said the reservation policy does not treat the youth of Jammu and Kashmir equally.

“This is a call for collective action to ensure that the voices of Jammu and Kashmir are heard and valued in the national discussion,” he said.

He added that both the Delhi Police and the Delhi government have granted them permission for the protest.

The protests have been rescheduled from its original date of 5th December due to delays in approvals.

He stressed the need for a merit-based opportunity system where individual efforts are acknowledged.

“We stand united in seeking merit-based opportunities,” he said.

He said the JKSA encourages students, job seekers and community members to participate in the protest to highlight their demands at the governmental level.

“Our protest is a call for justice, fairness, and transparency,” Khuehami declared, urging that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir deserve equal representation as their counterparts across India.

He said the sit-in aims to focus the attention of Parliament on the issues faced by Jammu and Kashmir's youth.

“Let our voices be heard and respected in Delhi, just like the rest of India,” he said.

The JKSA has invited students, job seekers, activists, and political leaders to join in support.

He said they are not against reservations, but we demand fairness and balance.

He advocated for a fairer distribution of opportunities reflective of Jammu and Kashmir’s demographics. He also suggested proportional representation based on population to ensure opportunities are equitably shared.
