Institutional service has the potential to solve the major problems and eradicate many evils of the society and the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

Addressing the Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav, hosted by Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) in Ahmedabad, Modi said when lakhs of workers were connected with a common purpose, it would transform as a great strength of the country and society.

“Service is that in which there is no sense of self and it gives direction to one’s spiritual journey and strengthens it over time. He added that when this service was done in an organised form with lakhs of workers as an institution, then amazing results were achieved,” he noted.

Modi cited the examples of Swachh Bharat Mission, natural farming, awareness about the environment, education of daughters and the issue of tribal welfare to claim that the people of the country were coming forward and leading the journey of nation building.

The prime minister further urged the karyakartas to work across a plethora of options like natural farming, spreading the feeling of unity in diversity, fighting against drug abuse to protect the youth, reviving the rivers, or adopting a sustainable lifestyle to save the future of the earth.

He said the youth will give their ideas and prepare the outline of their contribution to fulfill the resolve of developed India during the 'Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue' to be organised in January 2025.

Around one lakh BAPS volunteers attended the event held at the Narendra Modi Stadium to commemorate 50 years of the organisation’s Mumbai centre.

“Karyakar Suvarna Mahotsav is a celebration of the humanitarian teachings of Bhagwan Swami Narayan,” Modi said, adding that he was pleased to see that lakhs of BAPS workers were engaged in service with utmost devotion and dedication.

The prime minister noted that BAPS has 1800 temples of Lord Swami Narayan across 28 countries of the world and more than 21 thousand spiritual centres across the world. These centres are undertaking multiple projects of services, he added.

Modi further termed the BAPS temples as the cultural reflection of India and centres of the world's oldest living culture.

“Just a few months ago, the consecration ceremony of the Bhagwan Swaminarayan temple in Abu Dhabi took place, and I had the privilege of participating in that historic event. This temple and the ceremony have since garnered global attention, showcasing Bharat's spiritual heritage and cultural diversity. Such initiatives highlight Bharat's cultural grandeur and its spirit of human generosity,” he said.
