The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front (WBJDF) convened at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday to observe four months of “injustice” following the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor on the institution’s premises.
Protesters paid floral tributes to the symbolic statue of Abhaya. On the other hand, nursing staff under the banner of Medical Service Centre (MSC) held a march from RG Kar to Shyambazar five-point crossing.

The WBJDF, which has been at the forefront of the movement demanding justice for the victim and systemic reforms in the state’s healthcare sector, once again highlighted concerns about the alleged “threat culture” and “medical syndicate” operated by individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in government-run medical institutions.
“They say that our movement had no impact and lost all its meaning because they have won six seats [in the recently-held assembly by-polls],” said Dr. Ashfaqullah Naiya, one of the leading faces of the WBJDF. “We will continue to say that injustice happened at RG Kar and we are yet to get justice.”
“They have also reinstated into the [West Bengal] Medical Council those who were accused of threatening students. They have tried to kill our movement by humiliating us and by creating division among us. But our war against inhumanity will continue,” he added.
The junior doctors once again expressed doubts about the ongoing CBI investigation and the chargesheet filed by the central agency. Contrary to the CBI claim, they maintain that the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College was not murdered by a single individual.
“Sanjay Ghosh, the main accused is being tried in a closed-door trial at a local court. The CBI says the investigation is ongoing but there hasn’t been any chargesheet so far other than the one they have filed. The crime that happened could not have been made possible by just one person,” alleged Dr Aniket Mahato of WBJDF.
Protesters also questioned the investigation into the financial irregularities at RG Kar and asked why the central agencies have not yet filed a chargesheet into the matter.
