Former chief minister of Karnataka and former governor of Maharashtra, S.M. Krishna, was known as the architect of modern Karnataka. He made many reforms during his tenure and made significant contributions to the progress of the state.

The highly educated S.M. Krishna was also a union minister (he held the office of the Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to 2012). One special memory of him that comes back to my mind is his attraction to the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Vivekananda had lived for some time in the residence of the Forest Officer of Bengal in the Bhuikot Fort of Belgaum. To keep the memory of this historical structure alive, S.M. Krishna handed over the building to the Ramakrishna Mission.

A centre for the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda was started there. I had deliberately gone from Kolhapur for this handover ceremony.

S.M. Krishna has done a lot to preserve the bright tradition of Indian culture. These things have given me immense respect for S.M. Krishna. I pay my heartfelt tributes to him.
