The parents of the trainee doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have voiced their disappointment following senior advocate Vrinda Grover's decision to withdraw from representing them in the courts. However, they remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice for their daughter.
According to a PTI report, Grover's chamber issued a statement on Wednesday announcing that she and her legal associates were stepping away due to “certain intervening factors and circumstances.”
Talking to the media outside of the local additional sessions judge court at Sealdah in Kolkata, where the trial of Sanjoy Ray, the main accused in the rape and murder case, is ongoing, the victim’s father expressed disappointment and shock after receiving the news of Grover’s exit.
“But we will not stop our fight for justice,” he said, adding that initially he and his family were hopeful that Grover, being one of the most well-reputed advocates, would help them get justice. He also questioned the CBI investigation and the suo motu hearing at the Supreme Court of India.
The victim’s parents were, reportedly, dissatisfied with certain aspects of Grover’s questioning in court on their behalf. They also felt that some details of the case had been withheld from them by their counsel.

Grover and her team had been representing the family for nearly three months, appearing at the Supreme Court, Calcutta High Court, Sealdah Sessions Court, and ACJM Court.
While Grover personally attended the Sealdah court on the first day of Sanjoy Ray’s trial, her team ensured daily representation at the local court, where the trial has been proceeding from Monday to Thursday each week.
Meanwhile, due to the CBI's inability to file a chargesheet against them within the 90-day deadline in the rape and murder case, Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of Tala police station which has jurisdiction over the state-run institution, were granted bail on Friday.
However, Ghosh will remain behind bars as he has been arrested in another case related to financial irregularities.
