The Haryana government has suspended internet services in Ambala for third days in view of farmers’s Delhi Chalo march on Saturday. A ‘jatha’ of 101 farmers will make a third attempt  to march towards the national capital seeking Minimum Support Price for crops and various other demands.

As per government order, mobile internet and bulk SMS services have been suspended in 12 Ambala villages till December 17 to “maintain peace”. In the order, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Sumita Misra said, “It has been brought to my notice by additional director general of police, CID, Haryana and deputy commissioner, Ambala that in view of the call for Delhi Kooch given by certain farmers' organisations, there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage of public and private property and disturbance of public peace and tranquillity in the area of districts Ambala.”

Internet services have been suspended in  Dangdehri, Lehgarh, Manakpur, Dadiyana, Bari Ghel, Choti Ghel, Lharsa, Kalu Majra, Devi Nagar (Hira Nagar, Naresh Vihar), Saddopur, Sultanpur and Kakru villages in Ambala, PTI reported. The suspension shall be in force from 6am on December 14 to 11.59pm on December 17.

The home secretary said internet services are being suspended to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumours through social media platforms.

Farmers under the banner of  Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been protesting at the Shambhu border since February 13 urging the Centre to provide a legal guarantee for MSP.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher told ANI "The protest has entered the 307th day and our third 'jatha' of 101 farmers will leave for Delhi by noon. The whole country is supporting the protest, but, our prime minister and union agriculture minister are not saying anything about it and are maintaining distance. Government agencies are trying their best to ensure that the 'morcha' does not win.”

The farmers’ move comes a day after the Supreme Court directed the High Power Committee to persuade farmers to shift from the Shambhu border to unblock the highway or suspend the protest temporarily and HPC shall talk with governments.
