The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police carried out coordinated raids at multiple locations including the District Jail Mattan in Anantnag and the villages of Sonigam and Chawalgam in Kulgam district on Saturday.

The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into a militant-related case that has raised significant security concerns in the region. Reports indicate that technical evidence was discovered within the District Jail Mattan premises, specifically related to communications and interactions that may be linked to militant activities.

The CIK teams conducted thorough inspections in various blocks and barracks of the jail to gather additional intelligence and assess any potential security breaches.

In Kulgam, simultaneous raids were executed in the villages of Sonigam and Chawalgam, where CIK officials targeted specific individuals suspected of involvement in militancy. These operations were strategically planned and conducted under search warrants issued by a competent court, emphasizing the legal framework guiding these investigative efforts.

While authorities have not publicly disclosed detailed information regarding the nature of the evidence uncovered during the raids, they stressed the importance of these operations in their ongoing efforts to tackle militancy and enhance public safety.

The CIK's actions seem aimed at potential threats and to dismantle networks that may support militant activities in the region. Community cooperation has also been deemed vital in these efforts, as the police continue to engage with residents to gather information and address any security-related concerns they may have.

Post Article 370, the security agencies in Kashmir have launched a continuous operation against militants and those involved in narcotics smuggling from across the border.

Reports said some digital devices, including cellphones and tablets, have been recovered. The raids were planned after tracing technical signatures inside jail premises and with other suspects at other locations in an ongoing probe.
