Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday slammed the Centre during a debate, drawing a contrast between the Constitution and the Manusmriti.

Citing the writings of V.D. Savarkar, Rahul said the RSS ideologue clearly stated that there is nothing Indian about the Constitution and that the book India is run by should be superseded by Manusmriti.

"'Manusmriti is that scripture which is most worshippable after Vedas for our Hindu nation and from which our ancient times have become the basis for our culture, customs, thought and practice. This book, for centuries, has codified the spiritual and divine march of our nation. Today, Manusmiriti is law.' These are the words of Savarkar... This is what the fight is about," Rahul said.

Rahul slammed the BJP leadership, saying they are ridiculing Savarkar when they speak of protecting Constitution.

Continuing the attack, just like Dronacharya cut Eklavya's thumbs, Rahul said the BJP is chopping off thumbs of youths in India. "When BJP gives Dharavi to Adani, you are chopping off thumbs of small businessmen," he added.

Addressing the farmers protest on Shambhu border, Rahul said the farmers are demanding fair price but you are benefiting Adani. He pointed out that the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh failed to relocate the Hathras rape victim, pointing out that those who committed the crime are roaming free.

This comes a day after Priyanka Gandhi slammed the BJP for confusing between "Bharat ka Samvidhan" and "Sangh ka Vidhan" during her maiden speech in the Lok Sabha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Lok Sabha on Saturday evening. The Lok Sabha's special debate on a non-working day comes as the Constitution completed 75 years on November 26, 2024. A similar debate will be held in the Rajya Sabha on Monday and Tuesday.
