The Delhi Police on Thursday filed an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle at parliament.

The FIR was registered at Parliament Street Police station under sections 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Earlier in the day, the parliament premises witnessed a face-off between the opposition and NDA MPs over the alleged insult to B.R. Ambedkar. The altercation turned to a scuffle, with both sides accusing each other of “misbehaviour” and “manhandling”.

Former minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi was injured in the clash. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing the senior member, a charge rejected by the Congress leader.

The saffron party filed a police complaint accusing Rahul, the leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, of "physical assault and incitement".

BJP MP Hemang Joshi, accompanied by party colleagues Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, visited the Parliament Street Police Station and filed the complaint.

Meanwhile, the Congress also filed a complaint alleging that the BJP leaders misbehaved with its chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

A delegation of Congress MPs, including Digvijaya Singh, Mukul Wasnik, Rajiv Shukla and Pramod Tiwari, filed the complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station.

The four-page complaint was filed on behalf of around 12 MPs of Congress, with their names and signatures on it. “The BJP MPs exerted physical force on Kharge Ji by pushing him to the ground. This has inflicted bodily injuries to Kharge Ji, Neeraj Dangi and others," the complaint said.
