The Congress has reacted to the FIR filed against the Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle in the Parliament, stating it was a badge of honour.

In a post on X, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said the FIR against Rahul Gandhi was a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on B R Ambedkar.

The FIR was registered at Parliament Street Police station under sections 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

"A case against him for defending Babasaheb's legacy is a badge of honour. In any case, Rahul Gandhi is already facing 26 FIRs due to the BJP's political vendetta and this latest FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the casteist RSS-BJP regime," he said.

Venugopal also questioned why the Delhi Police had not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of INC against the BJP leaders who physically assaulted them.

The Congress MPs will also protest on Friday outside the Parliament House against Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on B R Ambedkar.

However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla banned demonstrations by MPs and political parties at any of the gates of Parliament on Thursday after political protests resulted in a scuffle.

"Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued strict instructions that no political party, Member of Parliament or groups of members will hold any dharna and demonstration at building gates of Parliament House," parliament sources said.

On Thursday, the protests by the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc parties on PArliament premises on the alleged insults to B R Ambedkar resulted in scuffles. Two MPs were injured and a woman MP  claimed intimidation by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.
