The Delhi Police Crime Branch has taken over the investigation into the scuffle outside Parliament that occurred during protests by MPs from the BJP and Congress. Delhi Police on Thursday filed an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle.

Alleging physical assault and injuries during the protest, both parties have lodged complaints against each other.

Two BJP MPs suffered head injuries during the scuffle and they were later taken to hospital. Pratap Sarangi from Odisha and Mukesh Rajput from Uttar Pradesh were the MPs hospitalised on Thursday.

BJP leader Hemang Joshi filed a complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of instigating the altercation.

The Delhi Police registered FIR under sections 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

"We have transferred the case from local police to the Crime Branch," a senior officer told PTI. He also added that the police will record the statements of Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput and may also call Gandhi for questioning.

Police also said that they will be accessing the CCTV visuals of the area where the incident occurred. "We are also taking legal opinion if the Congress leaders' complaint can be converted into the FIR," another police officer said, adding that a decision on this will be taken soon.

The Congress blamed the ruling party for the commotion and alleged that the members BJP pushed party president Mallikarjun Kharge, following which he sustained injuries to his knee.

Meanwhile, Sarangi claimed that Rahul Gandhi pushed him. "I was standing near the stairs when he came and pushed an MP who then fell on me," he told media.

However, Rahul said that he was standing near the entrance where the BJP MPs were protesting against the INDIA bloc MPs on the recent Amit Shah's Ambedkar remarks. "They were pushing and threatening me," he said.
