Mumbai ferry crash: Missing boy Zohan Pathan, 7, found dead 2 days after collision

A seven-year-old boy's body was recovered by the search and rescue team on Saturday days after he went missing since the tourist ferry crash off the coast of Mumbai two days ago.

The boy identified as Zohan Pathan, 7, hailed from Mapusa, Goa. His mother, Sakina Pathan, also died in the accident.

With the latest death, the death toll in the ferry crash reached 15. The crash happened when a speeding Navy craft lost control after developing a throttle issue and crashed into the ferry. The Navy vessel was undergoing engine trials and Navy has launched a probe into the incident.

The ferry, Neelkamal, was carrying more than 110 passengers and was bound to Elephanta Islands from the Gateway of India. Several survivors have been discharged after receiving treatment.

Police said the ferry was overloaded as the state maritime board had given permission to carry 84 passengers and six crew members. Reports said no life jackets were given to the passengers.

The Navy vessel had six passengers and only two of them survived. The ferry was taken to Bhaucha Dhakkam a wharf in south Mumbai

A case was registered against the driver of the Navy vessel at Colaba police station. He was charged with BNS sections related to causing death by negligence, endangering the personal safety of life of others, rash or negligent navigation of a vessel and acts of mischief that cause wrongful loss or damage.

A naval helicopter as well as boats of the Navy and Coast Guard are looking for more missing passengers in the crash.
