Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena came down heavily on the AAP government and urged it to take immediate action to address the lack of basic amenities at several places in the national capital. The LG said ministers from the state government should visit these “hellish” conditions themselves.

In a post on X, Saxena said he visited Rangpuri Pahari in South Delhi and Kapashera in South-West Delhi along with BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Saturday and the areas lacked basic amenities. “It was extremely disappointing and disturbing to see the helplessness and miserable lives of lakhs of people in the capital again yesterday. Similar conditions were seen earlier in various areas like Burari, Kiradi, Kalandar Colony, Sangam Vihar, Mundka and Gokulpuri,” Saxena charged.

The LG said he visited areas following repeated requests from the residents. “These areas, like other areas, also lack basic civic amenities and services. There is no drainage system, due to which the narrow lanes are constantly filled with silt and dirty water. There is no trace of roads. Power supply is extremely erratic There is an acute shortage of drinking water, forcing the women to carry water in buckets from the tanker that comes once in 7-8 days,” Saxena said.

The LG said residents also complained about poor power supply and heaps of garbage in the area. Saxena said he advised officials from Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and the irrigation and flood department to act upon the complaints immediately.

Urging Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and former CM Arvind Kejriwal to visit the place, Saxena said, “I urge the former Chief Minister, the current Chief Minister and the concerned ministers of the Delhi government to visit these areas and see the hellish conditions themselves. They should take immediate steps to improve this pathetic situation.”

The LG’s comments come amidst Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign for Delhi Assembly polls. The AAP is hoping they will win a consecutive term. Reacting to the charges, Kejriwal said the issues will be addressed. “I thank the LG from the bottom of my heart. We will address all the shortcomings he has identified. He went to Nangloi-Mundka road and pointed to potholes, we are getting that road fixed. We will get the areas he visited today cleaned. I urge him to point out the shortcomings, we will resolve them,” NDTV quoted him saying.
