The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against Partha Chatterjee in an alleged cash-for-job scam on Friday, a day after the framing of charges began against the former education minister of West Bengal at a special Enforcement Directorate (ED) court in Kolkata in another alleged recruitment scam.
While the ED’s charges against Chatterjee and 53 others comes as part of its investigations into the money laundering case linked to the alleged West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam, the CBI is investigating the TMC MLA in another alleged cash-for-job scam within the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBPE).
A special ED court in Kolkata began framing charges against him, and 53 others, as directed by the apex court, which has already granted the Behala Paschim MLA conditional bail in the money laundering case.
On Friday, the central crime investigating agency filed its chargesheet against Chatterjee, and two other accused namely Ayan Sil and Santa Gangopadhyay, at the City Sessions Court in Kolkata.
Reportedly, the CBI has claimed the ex-minister took bribe from more than 1,000 job applicants in the guise of giving them employment.
The CBI had arrested Chatterjee on October 1 in connection with the alleged cash-for-job scam in primary education board.
The agency had earlier questioned the politician as part of its investigations associated with the alleged SSC recruitment scam and named him as one of the accused in its chargesheets. Currently, the matter is subjudice at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the 72-year-old’s application to get bail from the CBI case related to the alleged recruitment scam within the primary board was dismissed by Calcutta High Court on Tuesday. He has been behind the bars for over two years now.
