Condemning the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu over alleged injustice meted out to the victim in the Anna University sexual assault case, state BJP chief Annamalai lashed himself with a whip six times on Friday. The BJP leader has also vowed to undergo fasting and not to wear sandals until the DMK-led government is dislodged from power.
The BJP leader whipped himself at Coimbatore while party cadres stood behind him holding placards demanding justice for the victim in the sexual assault case that allegedly happened within the University premises. Annamalai charged Gnanasekaran, the accused in the case was a functionary of the DMK, a charge which the ruling party has denied. Addressing presspersons after his protest, Annamalai said the hands of Tamil Nadu police are tied and women are unsafe under the DMK rule in the state.
On Thursday, Annamalai said, “Since the accused was associated with the DMK, police did not act against him; this is very simple.” He charged the state government should be ashamed for revealing the identity of the victim in the incident.
