Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of manipulating the electoral roll ahead of Delhi Assembly polls and charged there is a significant spike in applications for deletion and addition of voters in New Delhi seat in recent days. Kejriwal also filed a complaint with the district election officer in this regard.

Accusing the BJP of trying to win the Delhi election even by dishonest means, Kejriwal charged the BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ has been going on in the New Delhi constituency for the past 15 days. The former Delhi chief minister is contesting the assembly election from the New Delhi seat.

“In my New Delhi assembly constituency, the BJP’s 'Operation Lotus' has been going on since December 15. In these 15 days, they have filed application for the deletion of 5,000 votes and the addition of 7,500 votes,” Kejriwal charged. The AAP leader questioned the need to conduct elections when about 12 per cent of votes in the constituency are being manipulated. “A kind of 'game' is being going on in the name of election,” he charged. "This kind of manipulation undermines democracy. We appeal to the Election Commission to continue its strict monitoring to prevent such malpractice," Kejriwal said.

Accusing the BJP of trying to win elections through unfair means, Kejriwal said the BJP has already lost elections and the party does not have a chief ministerial face or good candidates. He asserted they would not let the BJP win elections through such tactics.

The AAP leader said 5,000 voter deletion applications and 7,500 addition requests have been filed since December 15 in his constituency. Kejriwal said after summary revision, there are 1,06,873 in his constituency.

In his petition to the district election officer, Kejriwal charged 81 persons who have filed 4,529 applications for deletion of names. The AAP leader urged the applications must be thoroughly checked and electoral registration officers should personally verify these applications.
