Kerala MLA Uma Thomas is showing signs of recovery and there is notable improvement in her health condition, doctors attending her in Kochi said on Tuesday.
The Congress legislator who is undergoing treatment at Renai Medicity Multi Super Specialty hospital in Kochi said she is on ventilator support and she responded to the doctor’s commands. Doctors said Thomas continues to receive treatment at the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital and recognised her children. "This demonstrates remarkable progress in the treatment for brain and spine injuries," said a medical bulletin issued by the hospital.
Doctors said in a medical bulletin that her sedation was reduced as part of efforts to assess brain function and consciousness. The medical board said though her vital signs as stable, Thomas would have to remain on ventilator support for several more days.

According to doctors, her lung condition remains critical and there was a slight improvement in her respiratory health on Tuesday. Doctors observed though the patient is responding to medications and treatment, her lung conditions remain critical. Rib fractures along with associated lung contusions will require prolonged intensive care, doctors noted.
The Congress legislator from Thrikkakara sustained head and spinal injuries after she fell from the VIP gallery—approximately 15 feet high—of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi, on Sunday evening. The incident happened when she visited the stadium to attend the inaugural ceremony of Bharatnatyam performance led by actor Divya Unni.
Based on the complaint of the legislator’s staff member, Kerala police have registered a case and they are investigating. Police have arrested a manager of an event management company over security lapses at the venue. Reportedly, police will soon summon Divya Unni and actor Sijoy Varghese, who was in charge of organising the event, to record their statements.
